2010 Cartier Maison Exhibition " Cartier, The Magic of Diamonds "

[2010.11.19]

Cartier diamonds on show

Cartier Maison Cheongdam situated in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, is more sparkling than ever with over 30 diamonds with special stories on show.

The exhibition “Cartier, The Magic of Diamonds,” which is currently running at the shop, showcases 36 pieces from the Cartier collection, which spans about 50 years from the early 1900s to the mid 20th century

The collection has been on display in world-renowned museums such as The British Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Visitors can learn about Cartier’s more than 160-year history and feel the spirits of European artisans through the show.

The exhibited diamonds are accompanied with an introduction on its background history and photos of famous figures who wore them.

For instance, a beautiful platinum tiara adorned with round old-cut diamonds and natural pearls is on show next to a black-and-white photo of Marie Bonaparte, great grand daughter of Lucien Bonaparte ― one of Napoleon’s brothers ― wearing it.
The tiara was originally a comb of diamond olive leaves and pearls for the back of the head, which could be worn as a bandeau, but was transformed into a tiara for her wedding with the second son of King George I of Greece in 1907.

Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II, is seen in one of the exhibited photos as well. She wore the dazzling 1938 Rose clip brooch, which is pinned on her left collar in the photo, to her sister’s coronation ceremony in 1953.
The exhibition runs until tomorrow at Cartier Maison Cheongdam in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.cartier.co.kr.
